Every year, buildings around the world are illuminated in support of Olympic Day. For this reason, on Thursday 22 and Friday 23 June 2023, people from all over the city of Barcelona will be able to look out of their windows and see the lighting that Torre Glòries has programmed as a show of support. This will take place from 20.00 to midnight.
Olympic Day is a celebration of sport and health and invites people all around the world to get active. Participants from across the globe commemorate the day that the International Olympic Committee was founded, in 1894. One way to commemorate it is by doing sport and joining the challenges and activities that are organised all over the world, such as the Let’s Move initiative. Torre Glòries is the only building or monument in Spain to take part in this initiative and will have special lighting with the Olympic rings on 22 and 23 June from 20.00 to midnight. In the rest of the world, other emblematic buildings have also joined the campaign, such as the Burj Khalifa (Dubai), the London Eye (London), Museo Soumaya (Mexico City), New York City Hall (New York), Estádio do Maracanã (Rio de Janeiro) and the Sky Tree (Tokyo), among others.
According to research, one in four adults and more than 80 % of young people do not meet the minimum levels of activity recommended by the WHO. Physical activity can help prevent certain diseases, such as hypertension, and can reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety. Given the importance of sport for health, on 23 June, the Olympic Movement encourages everyone to take time out of their daily lives to get active.
