What secrets would the oceans reveal if we could
see them from space?
The Torre Glòries transforms into OKEANÓS, the Greek titan, son of Uranus (the Sky) and Gaia (the Earth), who personifies the ocean that surrounds the Earth as a unique and living global entity. Like a living geyser of light and color, the tower stands as a portal to the ocean in the city, revealing, through a hypnotic dance of blues and greens, the hidden patterns of marine life, thanks to the visualization of scientific data obtained by NASA and ESA satellites.
Promotion valid from February 7 at 5:00 p.m. until the closing time on February 9, 2025, for purchases made online or at the ticket office, and while supplies last. Tickets available from January 20, 2025, until February 9, 2025. Valid for the purchase of the General Admission ticket. Check the purchase conditions here. All information is subject to possible changes without prior notice.
OKEANÓS is a visual experience that shows how sensors and satellites capture the radiation reflected by the ocean surface, providing images that, through color, allow the monitoring of phytoplankton concentration, ecosystem health, and the presence of pollutants. These observations not only reveal the connectivity of the ocean as a global system but are also essential for understanding its role in regulating the climate and preserving marine biodiversity. This impressive visual carousel interprets hundreds of satellite images from NASA and ESA, in an itinerary that begins in the icy waters of the Arctic in the Barents Sea, travels through the currents and seas around the world: skirting the Southern Ocean, crossing the Western Pacific, and concluding the journey in the European seas. A 360-degree tour of the Earth that unveils the majesty of the ocean.
Once again, the Mirador Torre Glòries becomes a beacon of environmental awareness with this installation, framed within the context of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science (2021–2030).
Anna Rierola (1969, Barcelona) is a visual artist who works at the intersection of art and science, using techno-scientific images from pioneering research centers to explore the beauty, complexity, and mystery of the universe. Her work presents a unified, interconnected, and interdependent vision of the world. Through her installations, she transforms scientific images into visual experiences that reveal the networks of connections that shape our world. In OKEANÓS, Rierola, with scientific guidance from the Institut de Ciències del Mar de Barcelona, creates an installation that uses Ocean Color data from NASA and ESA, transforming the Torre Glòries into a visual representation of the ocean and its seas as a unique, living, interconnected entity. Her work seeks to raise awareness of the majesty and fragility of the oceanic world and its importance in maintaining the balance of global ecosystems.
The Llum BCN 2025 light arts festival will illuminate Poblenou from February 7 to 9, 2025, transforming the urban landscape with installations that combine art, technology, and light. This event brings together internationally renowned artists to explore new forms of visual expression, offering a journey through iconic buildings and public spaces that become canvases of light. Don’t miss this nighttime cityscape experience that makes us all feel the magic.
